URBAN MINISTRY is our fifth Bingley Lecture of 2018.

We welcome the Rev Canon Gordon Dey, Rev Canon Gary Hodgson and Rev Helen Hodgson.

Following Ordination Gordon went to Mixenden in Halifax before moving to St Christopher’s, Holme Wood in Bradford, where he was vicar for 26 years. The church is set in a large social housing estate with high levels of social deprivation – the parish of around 11,000 people is in the most deprived 1% in terms of the Index of Multiple Deprivation . At St Christopher’s, Gordon’s passion to show and share Jesus’ love with those who were disadvantaged, or “on the edge” led over time to a new way of thinking for the church. He is now the man behind ‘Jesus Shaped People’.

Gary and Helen both feel a call to urban ministry and are currently based at Tong and Laisterdyke with Holme Wood in Bradford. Prior to this they have been based in Cottingley, Fixby and Cowcliffe, and Kirkburton, while also being chaplains at the University of Huddersfield.
