The four great English spiritual writers of the 14th century are as relevant today as they ever have been.  The readership of ‘Cloud of Unknowing’ and Julian of Norwich has never been greater.  Walter Hilton (‘The Scale of Perfection’) was for centuries one of the most widely read authors on the spiritual life.  Richard Rolle, Hermit of Hampole was a contemporary of Chaucer and one of the first to write in English about mystical experience.
